Patent No 6054. Rigby, J.S., Sweetapple, H., and Clarke, J. March 8 1897 Parchment Paper - In order thoroughly to remove the acid which adheres to the surface of the paper when it emerges from the bath, it is brushed or scrubbed by brushes D.  The brushes are mounted as shown in Fig. 1, and act on the paper as it passes round the rollers E.  A reciprocating movement, transverse to the web of paper, is given to the brushes by the bell crank G oscillated by an eccentric.  Fig. 4 shows the construction of one of the brushes D, the surface of which consists of ribs R of india-rubber, wood, etc.  Water is supplied to the chamber D1, and escapes through holes S between the ribs.  The Provisional Specification states that the paper may be carried through the acid bath by a large roller partially immersed in the liquid.   This roller may be mounted in adjustable bearings, and driven at the same speed as that which the paper travels.
